Many times our beliefs hide from us. We know they are there. We know they are on the tip of our tongue sometimes. Yet, they seem just outside our reach.
In order to change, both of us know, we need to become aware of what it is we want to change. Changing a belief about something requires uncovering what it is first.
I love using clichés as writing prompts to find my belief that's I think are tripping me up -- this way I can rework the belief into what I really want them to mean for me.
Here are a few of my favorite prompts…
"Money doesn't grow on ..."
"A penny for your ..."
"It takes money to make ..."
"Success doesn't happen ..."
"Earning money takes hard…"
The first one, "Money doesn't grow on…" and mind went immediately to "trees." Money doesn't grow on trees.
Then I set my timer for 3 minutes and complete a brain dump writing. No stopping, just keeping the pen moving. What appeared was an, "Oh, shi_" moment. I'm not going to share what came forth…personal. I know you understand. I felt as if I was an ostrich with my head in the sand, pulling it out and seeing the clouds for the first time.
Now this type of awakening doesn't happen all the time. Yet, I did find all were releasing in some way…some small…some larger. Yet, all releasing.
Then when I began the next time around…to rewrite the belief "Money doesn't grow on trees but beautiful leaves do" it began a clearing of the belief.
Try this…explore the clichés from your parents or the media you want to rewrite in your mind or just release. This is a freeing experience. Change them into empowering beliefs.
I've had fun with this for years now. I've rewritten many beliefs this way. Not everything works with this process, we both know this. It's just one way of many you'll need to rewrite any beliefs holding you back from your success.
Many blessings. Share with me what happens.
