I'd like you to weight in and share your ideas – but first, I'll share one of mine.
Catherine Franz – "I was just starting my coaching business. I was still attending Coach University at the time. And I had one client and wanted more. So, on a Friday evening, I went to Barnes and Noble close by. Under my coat was my bathrobe and nightgown. In a bag, I had my extra fluffy dog slippers.
Back then, B&N had a group setting of two couches and several overstuffed chairs. I grabbed several children books. Since it was right before Christmas, they were this topic oriented. I sat on the couch and began reading a story to my borrowed neighbor's child, Christina.
There I sat in my bathroom and nightgown with overstuffed slippers, curled up in the middle seat of the couch reading.
This was right after I posted I sign that read, "Please take one. FREE." I handed out a tips booklet I had written on "Ten Ways to Change Your Life in 10 Minutes or Less a Day." Included was a two pages – one about coaching and one about me, along with my picture.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading to the children, meeting new people, and listening to other people take turns reading. The manager of the store said he had never seen anything like that before. He whispered to me that he should probably ask me to leave. However, he decided to go to dinner instead. His sales were up on children books so all he did was smile. Later, he gave me a copy of all the books I read. Which I gave to my neighbor who did childcare in her home. She still thinks I'm crazy to this day. LoL
In less than a week, my coaching practice was full with 18 clients. People called me for weeks after that. My own regret was I didn't contact some newspapers to do a story on it. But this wasn't learned until a year later."
