A few days ago I answered S. Deven’s question about “How many website models there are?” Today Ms. Deven asks – I love an inquisitive mind – “What is the number one reason why – the very top reason – why someone doesn’t make money on the Internet?” Again, Ms. Deven, good question.
Generally, people don’t know what type of model they are using from the very beginning of their development or they change it midstream.
Let me give you an example that I see as a common mistake. Many coaches, since I am a Master Coach and I coach many coaches, they set up a brochure website about their services – this falls under #2 on my previous list – Support Service Site. Then they add begin adding #9 – Sale of Information Products – to that same site. And many times they add an articles section – which is between #3 and #15 (News Site and General Information). All under the same domain name.
It’s a no wonder why visitors are confused.
What model are they using? They normally never fully completed any one model; they just kept adding a new model without fully expressing the previous model. AND they do it all under one domain name.
The answer Ms. Deven to your question is:
They don’t succeed because their website model is mixed. When I usually see this, I also see that this same confusion is found in their regular business mode.
You see, Ms. Deven, an Internet business is a separate business from a physical business (even if it’s a home based business). It needs its own model, its own business plan. When it’s just an extension, which was popular in the last century, it shows a lack of focus. People buy focus. Buyers want others who are focused.
