I'm not your biggest fan. I only watch your show, The Big Idea, a few times a week.
Even though I find the conversation boring at times, I've found Donny Deutsch, its host, occasionally brings on some people that can stretch my thinking. This gets me to tune in from time to time, usually at least for the first 15 minutes.
Last night, Donny said a subconscious thought aloud that still has me reeling, even this morning.
He said, "People don't change behavior. Just fire him."
In context, he was talking to a small business owner on the phone who was asking for advice about a man he hired who had no previous experience in the position. It was apparent the owner had some problems himself in supervising which probably contributed highly to the employee's behavior.
Remember, it's so much easier to point the finger at someone else than to take the responsibility ourselves.
His statement had me jumping up from the coach, waving my fist, even using choice wording. Now that's behavior I've never ever displayed before.
Wait a minute. Donny said, "People don't change behavior."
Since I was still bubbling over this morning on his comment, I decided to use Dr. Merilee Adams concept of "asking a better question" approach. Especially since, I couldn't find a comment place on CNBC's Big Idea web page to give 'ole Donny a piece of my thoughts.
If people don't change, then why is Donny doing the Big Idea show?
If people can't change their behavior, how do addicts recover? And there are surely thousands of them in the world, if not millions.
Hmm, from a marketer's standpoint I wonder, "How many other people believe people can't change?" I know my son has this belief. And I can see how it causes problems in his success too. It so contradicts his own past, of course.
What a contradiction of belief. People do change behavior. That is, if they want to.
Since we're usually too close to our self to see what needs changing, it usually takes outside sources to light the fire.
Donny, I just lit your match.
For the rest of us, I toss out this . . . "What is your belief?"
"Do you believe people can't change their behavior? If yes, "How could this belief is contradicting your success?"
You see, when the conscious/subconscious contradicts each other, they cancel out any possible success. Why? Because behavior can't change. One belief holds positive energy, the other negative energy. Even in scientific terms, they cancel each other out. It does in metaphysical realms too.
A personal note to Donny . . . you owe your viewers an apology. How can anyone listen to you when you don't believe in what you boast your show is all about? You just cancelled yourself out.
Do you agree, or disagree with me? Go ahead enlighten us.
