Do you write handwritten notes anymore?

Tuesday, October 24, Terry Nicholetti was a guest on the Let’s Talk Marketing radio show I host. Our discussion was about “Making Contacts Count.” Before and after the show she mentioned twice (and I got the hint fast) that she like to receive notes that are handwritten. She wants the envelope handwritten too and with a pretty stamp.

That got me thinking about something I used to do but dropped because it didn’t seem to have the “thank you” or “I’m thinking of you” or “I think you’re extra special for me to take the time to do a handwritten note to you” effect. At least I didn’t think they mattered because I never received a response, not even an e-mail saying, “I received your card. Thank you.”

Therefore, I stopped doing them. Years ago, I use to write one a day. I would look for someone that I was thankful for in my life in some way and give him or her a card. Sometimes hand delivered, sometimes mailed.

Putting Terry’s emphasis on how she enjoyed receiving handwritten cards and my need to say thank you I decided to begin the practice again. Beginning this morning with a card to Terry. It gave me such a positive rush of energy after I completed the card.

I suggest that you might want to consider this practice if you aren’t doing it already. There are many ways to institute the practice whether or not you have a business. Maybe you have an assistant you can delegate some of the responsibility to. If not all, a portion. If they do the written note though, I think you would loose out on the meaning.

As far as the laws of attraction, this is a great way to vibrate into the world -- not just when you write the card but also when they receive it. The receiver has to give out positive energy towards you when they receive it.

Knowing what our customers want is important. Have you ever thought to find out if they enjoy handwritten cards? Does it make their day a little brighter? Will they remember you more? Maybe a good assignment is to take a survey, or just ask in the next conversation. I did this morning and was much surprised on the answers. You may too.
