Headlines, smedlines, don't you just grab something that sounds right and plunk it down on the page so you can get onto the next item on your to do list?
Well, of course, that is a good way of doing it. So, why does everyone write and tell us how important choosing the headline is? Because its 100% important. It is the first thing people see when it pops into their view and in less than three seconds, maybe one, they decide, "Is this worth my time, or not."
But coming up with a headline that grabs their attention isn't as hard as it's made up to be.
In preparing to write this article, I read hundreds of articles, a number of books, a few teleclasses. I think people are making it complicated in order to justify why you need to buy whatever they are selling. So, I sat down and wrote out some tips for myself.

Great! You finished your piece and now need a headline. Usually headlines are less than ten words and need to be expressed in short, expressive, active words. This provides quick focus and pull in. By waiting until you know what you are ending up with, it will save you time. You can give a temporary headline while drafting.
