I have a pet peeve with a marketing technique that is growing. In the last few days I have received over 30 emails with offers to join their organization or buy their product with "no risk" involved statements. In weeks before this I can see the numbers growing.
What do they think, that the public is stupid. There is risk involved. You people are asking us to risk our time (a commodity that can't be replaced), we are risking our money (maybe we will not get a refund), and we are risking our beliefs (maybe your advice or opinion isn't healthy for us).
The questions that come to mind, "Are newbie marketers only doing this mistake?" Don't they realize that its all about them making the sale and not about their target market? Don't they realize they are loosing integrity? Don't they realize that maybe they are using a technique that doesn't fit their market? Or maybe they don't know their market very well.
Someone needs to clue these people in -- there is a risk involved. The intention behind anything comes out in our language. My intention for this note is extremely clear -- if you are doing this in your marketing, I would suggest you get a grip on reality and stop treating your prospects are stupid.
I know, I know. This is only my opnion. But someone has got to speak up, apparently these people aren't getting it. Thus, here's my 5 minutes of sound bite. I recommend that if you get these emails instead of just deleting them, send them a quick note back. Maybe with something along the lines of: "Hey, I'm not stupid, there is risk involved!" Maybe then this growing marketing technique will come to a end.
